LOL: The $8 million Prodigal Son

Just a quickie about Jim Harbaugh returning to the University of Michigan as football coach.  First, off, for $8 million a year, he'd be a FOOL not to coach the roadkill.  Read ESPN's take and it will make the good lord's head spin:  "[Harbaugh is] an iconic figure there and has been hearing from family and friends about returning as the prodigal son."

Prodigal Son?  For $8 million a year?  Umm.... doesn't entirely fit.

Read the history of "Michigan men" ashamed at Harbaugh ripping his alma mater:

  • here ("Jim Harbaugh has to be some sort of verbal moron... We shouldn't look down on him just because there are six-year-olds with a better sense of what an appropriate public discourse is....  What Harbaugh proposes harms everyone but himself; sadly, it's become obvious we can expect no better from this man"),
  • here ("kiss any chance of coaching at Michigan goodbye"),
  • here ("he's not a Michigan man and I wish he had never played here"),
  • here ("elitist and arrogant"),  etc.

LOL. My how times change when you are getting your asses kicked on the gridiron.  May the seas part for the Harbaugh clan. The arrogance is deafening, and he hasn't even yet publicly announced he has accepted the job.  ES can't wait until MSU comes to Ann Arbor in 2015, Prodigal Son or not.

And, for $8 million per year - there are no guarantees... just ask Notre Dame, Florida, Tennessee, UCLA (for starters).

Dan Enos to CMU?

Interesting post on the ES message board; one individual reports that Dan Enos has interviewed to be the head coach at Central Michigan University. Enos is the running back's coach at Michigan State and one of the team's best recruiters. He was a quarterback at Michigan State at the end of our last glory years under George Perles; he helped lead the Big Green to its last conference title about 400 years ago (ok, back in 1990, which is 20 years ago).

As you know, Brian Kelly left GVSU for CMU, and then left CMU for Cincinnati, and then left Cincy for ND. When he left CMU for Cincy, the Chips hired Butch Jones. Jones just left for Cincy to fill Kelly's vacancy. So, will Enos be the next head Chippewa?

Yes, it would be a good pick by the Chips and a tough loss for MSU.

NCAA Coaching Change Update: Fired, Hot Seat, and Griddle

OK, now that we are at the end of the season, it is time for your Division I Football Bowl Subdivision coaching carousel update. 11 coaches already are gone. Richie Rich is still on the hot seat; seven are already on the griddle for 2010.

GONE (11)

  • Charlie Weis. Notre Dame. 6-6.
  • Bobby Bowden. Florida State. 6-6.
  • Mark Snyder. Marshall. 6-6.
  • Mark Mangino. Kansas. 5-7. (added 12/3, 9 pm)
  • Mike Sanford. UNLV. 5-7.
  • Steve Kragthorpe. Louisville. 4-8.
  • Al Groh. Virginia. 3-9.
  • JD Brookhart. Akron. 3-9.
  • Dick Tomey. San Jose State. 2-9.
  • Tommy West. Memphis. 2-10.
  • David Elson. Western Kentucky. 0-11.

STILL ON THE HOT SEAT (1)

ON THE 2010 GRIDDLE (7)

  • Dennis Erickson. Arizona State. 4-8. 2007’s Pac-10 coach of the year is a distant memory for back-to-back losing seasons.
  • Ron Zook. Illinois. 3-8. Zook’s problems ain’t nothing. Illinois’ president was sacked for admissions violations – too bad they couldn’t admit better players.
  • Dan Hawkins. Colorado. 3-9. That blue field of Boise State looks better every year in Boulder.
  • Ralph Friedgen. Maryland. 2-10. Another meat eater gets another year to tack on a few more wins, or pounds.
  • Todd Dodge. North Texas. 2-10. Don’t know a thing about this guy, but he’s been there for three years.
  • Mike Locksley. New Mexico. 1-11. Um, getting into a fistfight with your assistant coach in your first month as coach won’t get Ws.
  • Paul Wulff. Washington State. 1-11. Three wins in two years… maybe two wins in year three? This guy’s T-O-A-S-T.
